Governor visits SandpiperCI on 18 November

Jersey’s lieutenant Governor, Lieutenant General Andrew Ridgeway — who is Her Majesty’s representative in the island — spent a day visiting various sectors of SandpiperCI’s business recently.

His Excellency visited C.I. Bakery where he was shown all areas of the production process, including the baking of local celebrity chef Shaun Rankin’s national award winning tart.

He also visited the Checkers Superstore at Rue des Pres, where he spent time talking to management and staff about the store’s recent rebranding and refurbishment. He was interested to hear about the customer service initiatives, staff training and how customers have positively reacted to the new look and feel of the store.  He disclosed that he and his wife were regular shoppers at Checkers and he too was pleased with the way the store now looked.

He then went on to Safeway for a similar visit and was also given the opportunity to try his hand on one of the checkouts.  Delighted customers and staff observed the speed and agility of His Excellency’s skills as he speedily scanned his way through a basket of shopping.
Finally, the official party moved on to Marks and Spencer in King Street where they were shown how the franchise operates.  Before the official car turned up to take His Excellency back to Government House, the party took lunch in the store’s café where they enjoyed ‘not just any lunch… but a Marks and Spencer lunch!’
