SandpiperCI expands into Liberty Wharf

I am delighted to announce that a new Marks and Spencer Home store is to open in Liberty Wharf on the Jersey Waterfront next year. The new store of 10,000 square feet will replace the smaller existing outlet at Centre Point, St Brelade and will be the ‘anchor’ in Liberty Wharf, Jersey’s exciting new shopping mall development.

We are at last able to expand our M&S Home range in Jersey. We first introduced the M&S Home concept in November 2007 and due to its extraordinary success have outgrown our current location in St Brelade. The new store will enable us to significantly increase the range of lines we’re able to sell and we’ll also be recruiting 12 extra staff. This is further evidence of our commitment to invest and improve consumer choice in the Channel Islands. It comes on the back of the multimillion pound investments we have made over the last two years upgrading existing facilities in our retail estate and widening choice in M&S Simply Food, Checkers and Safeway stores.

Once the developer has handed over the units in the first few weeks of next year, we will begin to fit out the M&S unit to exacting standards which will take two to three months. It is hoped Liberty Wharf will be open in time to trade before Liberation Day 2010.

In addition to the anchor unit, we have been in negotiation with marketing agent, Buckley and Co for some months and have reserved several other prime units within the complex. Further announcements will be made in the coming weeks once we conclude negotiations with various UK retail brands. We will of course keep you appraised of any developments, as and when we are in a position to do so.
