Behind the Beans

Here at Costa Coffee, we’re just as committed to our communities, the people we serve and the world we live in as we are about serving great coffee.

Our story

The Costa Coffee story started over 45 years ago with two brothers and just one dream. Since then, a lot has changed, but our values and commitment to serving great tasting coffee hasn’t – it’s in our DNA.

Costa Community

Our teams offer warm, inviting spaces for people to come together, and invest time in building lasting connections with the communities they serve.  We support our team members in making a meaningful contribution locally because our Community Programme is a hugely important part of the way we do business.  Our nationwide activities focus on social themes that our customers tell us they care about, and we also encourage our teams to plan their own activities to meet the needs of their specific communities.

Every store has its own Community Noticeboard where customers and members of the public can put up news and information about activities that are happening in their local area. Plus, with Costa Coffee outlets in over 30 countries around the world, we also support our international stores in similar ways.

By making the most of our space in-store and drawing on the enthusiasm of our amazing teams, we focus on bringing people together to strengthen the communities we are part of.

Costa Foundation

We believe that education is the first step towards a better life and we aim to improve schools in the poorest coffee-farming communities.

We know that the farmers who grow coffee are an essential part of our business – we couldn’t keep inspiring the world to love great coffee without them!

Many coffee-growing communities are situated in remote rural areas, in some of the world’s poorest countries and children in these communities often have limited or no access to education.

The Costa Foundation* was started back in 2006 to support the people living in remote communities by building schools to give children a safe, quality education.

We know that education has the power to change a child’s life story, which is why the Costa Foundation has a big vision: to eradicate poverty in coffee-growing communities.
