Supporting Autism Jersey
4 May 2018
The SandpiperCI team are supporting Autism Jersey today - raising money from a dress down day, as well as raising awareness of the work carried out by Autism Jersey.
Autism Jersey is the leading charity in Jersey dedicated to the assistance and support of people on the autism spectrum. The aim of the charity is to enable people with autism to lead a full and inclusive life and enjoy a reasonable degree of independence. They provide essential support for families, individuals and carers, and have pioneered a number of bespoke services and support packages for both adults and children.
Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them. It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways. Some people with autism are able to live relatively independent lives, but others may have accompanying learning disabilities and need a lifetime of specialist support.
There are approximately 1,000 people in Jersey who are on the autism spectrum. Through the wide range of services they offer, they ensure that these adults and children receive timely intervention to improve the quality of life for them and their families.
Autism Jersey strives to create a network for support and advice for both families and individuals. They offer comprehensive training and have a lending library of autism-related resources. Find out more.
