SandpiperCI Striders Shine in the Jersey Hospice Care Marathon Relay
In an exhilarating display of determination and teamwork, the Sandpiper Striders debuted at this year’s Jersey Hospice Care Marathon Relay race. Weeks of dedicated training and unwavering commitment paved the way for this spirited event, featuring a lineup of five enthusiastic individuals from across the business including; Nicky Boarer, Kieran Poole, Duncan Peddie, Andrew Holmes and Adriana Bornman.
The relay unfolded with incredible energy, each leg showcasing the fortitude and drive of these remarkable participants. Deputy Company Secretary Nicky spearheaded the team during the first leg, passing the baton to Food Retail Operations Director Andrew, who powered through the second leg with unbridled enthusiasm. Food Retail Manager Keiran and Duncan followed with Director of Commercial Finance Adriana completing the race seamlessly.
In a feat that surpassed their personal bests, each member of the team blazed through the relay, completing the 26.2 mile distance with impressive finesse in a commendable 4 hours, 44 minutes, and 55 seconds.
But their triumph didn’t end there – their fundraising efforts, in aid of Jersey Hospice Care, soared beyond expectations, raising an awe-inspiring £6,000, a testament to their relentless dedication and the generous support they garnered from both in-store and online donations.
Jersey Hospice Care holds a significant place in the hearts of Sandpiper Striders and the rest of the business alike, as the island’s sole hospice, offering specialised palliative care to patients facing life-limiting conditions. Incredibly, Jersey Hospice Care operates as an independent charity extending its services to patients at no cost. However, sustaining this vital lifeline requires a substantial £20,000 a day, a testament to the enormous generosity of Islanders who fund this noble cause.
The Sandpiper Striders not only showcased their athletic prowess, but also their dedication to the community, rallying for a cause that touches lives and brings hope.
