The British fashion and homeware retailer specialising in high quality, great value women’s fashion, kidswear, men’s and homeware, operates 230 stores in the UK and more than 40 franchise stores across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
Mike Rutter, Sandpiper’s Retail Managing Director said:
“We’re extremely pleased to be making this announcement. Matalan is a well-known UK brand which has offered outstanding value and quality for more than 30 years. Matalan is synonymous with a wide-ranging choice of the highest quality clothing and homeware at great value prices which we’re certain will be well-received by our Channel Islands customers.”
“The Matalan stores will be a positive and welcome arrival in the current difficult retail climate. The stores will occupy four units in Sandpiper’s Liberty Wharf ‘shop & dine’ retail complex and will replace George at its existing 5,200 sq ft shop in St Martin’s, Guernsey.”
SandpiperCI has also announced its George franchise shops will close in Jersey and Guernsey at the end of January. The reason given for the store closures is because the franchise contracts are coming to an end and Asda, the owners of George, have made a corporate decision not to renew any of its worldwide franchise operations. No redundancies will occur as a result of the George closures.
