SandpiperCI Supporting Guide Dogs UK

Sandpiper has been working with Guide Dogs UK since 2013 and have had the pleasure of naming two puppies.

Our first puppy named Piper was born 16th September 2013 and placed with his puppy walker to begin early training. Piper started out as an uncoordinated bundle of fluff, but has since grown into a gentle, sweet, nurtured guide dog.

On 2nd May 2019, Morrison was born, also a bundle of playful clumsy energy. Morrison is now a bright, confident, steady dog who enjoys exploring the world around him.

We also had the pleasure of meeting guide dog Lester, who was able to learn how to safely navigate his owner around our stores during his training program. Lester, like Piper and others before him are always welcome to train on the island and in our Sandpiper stores.

The Guide Dogs story started in 1931 with two amazing British pioneers, Muriel Crooke and Rosamund Bond. These two remarkable women organised the training of the first four British guide dogs.

Guide Dogs UK “Our ambition is a future where every person with sight loss has the confidence and support they need to live their lives to the full.”

Guide Dogs regularly train in Sandpiper stores and in previous years, we have had the pleasure of inviting Guide Dogs UK to our Liberty Wharf retail centre. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, this has been postponed until 2022. However, we’re really looking forward to welcoming the guide dogs, trainers and owners back next year.
