Monthly charity round-up May 2022

May has been a very rewarding month for us, with lots going on from supporting local Liberation day events to Flag Days and charity walks. Below is our round-up of charity donations for the last month.

Guide Dogs for the Blind street collection

We were delighted to support the Guide Dogs for the Blind street collection at Marks & Spencer King Street. In the 10 hours of collecting over Friday 20th and Saturday 21st May, they raised an amazing £1,600. The dogs were, of course, the stars of the show, with many worthwhile interactions with the public.

International Midwife Day 5th May 2022

We are proud to support Health and Community Services with International Midwife Day by donating £325 worth of SandpiperCI vouchers. This provided each registered midwife with a £5 gift voucher as a thank you for their continued dedication to our island and their contribution to midwifery services.

St Ouen Liberation Day event

On Monday 9th May, St Ouen's held an Afternoon Tea Party in the Walled Garden at St Ouens Manor for any parishioners who wished to attend. To help with this Liberation Day event, we donated tea and coffee.

Guernsey Alzheimer's Association Flag Day

Morrisons Daily L’Islet store was pleased to support the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association in their flag day collection on Saturday 14th May. They raised a total sum of approximately £5,000 thanks to the generosity of our wonderful customers! The vital funds raised will help support the carers of people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementia in Guernsey.

CRY Jersey Open Garden party

We were happy to support CRY Jersey (Care & Relief for the Young) with their Open Garden party on Sunday 22nd May by donating tea, coffee and jam. They made a total profit of £660, which will go towards their work with refugees from Iraq, Lebanon and those now fleeing Ukraine.

St Peter Parish Liberation Day party

St Peter parish organised a Liberation Day party at L'Eree headland and beach on Monday 9th May. This included running a tea tent as a fundraising initiative toward their community centre's field development plans. Morrisons Daily St Peter was more than happy to donate £60 worth of tea, coffee and sugar to the tea tent.

Jersey Cheshire Home annual Golf Day

We had the pleasure of supporting the Jersey Cheshire Home with their annual Golf Day by providing them with bottles of water for the golfers. The sun was shining and all 25 teams played some great golf - well done to everyone who took part in such a worthy cause.

Jersey Mencap South Coast Charity Challenge

Iceland New Era was delighted to support Jersey Mencap with their South Coast Charity Challenge on Sunday 15th May by donating 400 bags of crisps to all the walkers. The walk started at La Rocque with participants walking 15 miles to Corbiere.

Cancer Research Guernsey Flag Day

Morrisons Daily St Peter and L’Islet stores were delighted to support Cancer Research Guernsey in their Flag Day collection on Saturday 30th April. Cancer Research raised over £4,000, of which our stores helped contribute a whopping £632.82!

St John's School Walk

Iceland St Peter donated 40 oranges for the 120 children taking part in the St John Primary School walk. The year 5 and year 6 students walked 13.1km in just 2 hours and 45 minutes! The walk raised an outstanding £3,412.68 for the school.
